Several weeks ago many of you read the story of Laurel – a blind Syrian refugee who immigrated to the United States and lived on the streets of Los Angeles and New York City in pursuit of his dream of attending Harvard University.
After many fits and starts, the rest of Laurel’s family was able to relocate to the United States a few days ago. It was an emotional rollercoaster watching the impact the travel ban had on Laurel and his family during this transitional period.
After reading Laurel’s story many of you reached out and asked if you could donate money. At the time I told you there was no need – now there is a need. Laurel’s family needs money to settle into their new life in America. Currently they are seeking $3,000 for the first and last month’s security deposit on an apartment in Staten Island, NY.*
Please consider donating and share this request with your friends and family. Let’s give Laurel’s family the big American welcome they deserve! Please click on the link below to donate.
*I will be collecting all money (up until the $3,000 goal) and distributing it to Laurel’s family via a bank wire. I will donate any any additional proceeds to the Human Rights Campaign.
